Tether and Laos-based crypto exchange Bitqik have announced a joint initiative for accelerating financial literacy around Bitcoin and stablecoins across the country. The partnership will be marking one of the most structured education efforts focused on digital assets especially stablecoin in the Lao market.
Tether, Bitqik Team Up to Promote Stablecoin Literacy in Laos
The collaboration brings together Tether, the issuer of the world’s largest stablecoin USDT, and Bitqik, a licensed local exchange that provides cryptocurrency brokerage and trading services. The program is created to introduce students, entrepreneurs, and local communities to the practical use of blockchain technology, with a strong focus on responsible participation in digital finance.
Bitqik operates as one of Laos’s regulated crypto platforms, allowing users to send, receive, and trade digital assets within a compliant framework. The company has positioned its services around the belief that decentralized financial systems can widen economic access and support innovation beyond traditional banking structures. Those principles, both firms said, form the basis of the partnership.
Under the initiative, Bitqik will lead educational outreach efforts explaining how stablecoins function, how they differ from volatile cryptocurrencies, and how digital dollars such as USD₮ are used for payments, savings, and cross-border transfers. The broader objective is to increase understanding of blockchain infrastructure while strengthening trust in stablecoin-based financial tools.
The education campaign will combine digital learning with in-person engagement. Bitqik plans to develop online study materials tailored built for students and first-time users. In addition to this, there will also be quarterly events in several major Lao cities. These include Vientiane, Pakse, Vang Vieng, and Luang Prabang.
According to the companies, the sessions will focus on real-world use cases rather than speculation. Topics will include peer-to-peer transfers, digital wallets, stablecoin settlement, and how blockchain systems support transparency and record keeping. Participants will also receive guidance on risk awareness and responsible usage.
The program aims to reach more than 10,000 people through seminars, roadshows, and online content. Organizers said the goal is to build long-term familiarity rather than short-term adoption, particularly in regions where access to financial education remains limited.
Paolo Ardoino, chief executive officer of Tether, said the initiative reflects a commitment to education at the community level.
“Financial inclusion is achieved through understanding as much as access,” Ardoino said in a statement. “Working with Bitqik allows us to support local learning and help communities in Laos develop the knowledge needed to participate meaningfully in the digital economy.”
Laos, like several economies in Southeast Asia, has seen growing interest in crypto. However, recently , the country shared plans to halt electricity supply to crypto miners by early 2026, redirecting that power to industries like AI data centers, metals refining and electric vehicle manufacturing.
The partnership also fits within Tether’s broader engagement in education and infrastructure within the digital asset ecosystem. Recently, the company announced a $250,000 donation to OpenSats, a nonprofit organization that supports open-source development related to Bitcoin and censorship-resistant technologies.
According to OpenSats, more than 300 grants have already been issued to contributors building tools that strengthen privacy, improve protocol design, and support public education initiatives around Bitcoin.
For Bitqik, the collaboration will provide Lao people with greater access to digital assets through various activities throughout 2026.
